How to overcome beginner designer imposter syndrome. Am I good enough as a designer?

In this video, I talk about my advice on getting over the doubts and insecurities that every beginner designer and beginner artists face when starting out and especially before sharing their work with others online or offline also known as the imposter syndrome. “Am I good enough as a designer?” is what we all ask ourselves and normally we all answer: “No! I’m not! Look at all those amazing designers or artists! I will never be as good as them so why even try?”

If you are interested in how to overcome beginner designer imposter syndrome and often have the question
“Am I good enough as a designer?”, then this video is for you.

This is normal!

First of all, feeling like this is very normal. We all have that feeling and those doubts. Even seasoned and experienced artists and designers have them from time to time, especially when tacking new projects, big clients, and generally going out of their comfort zone.

I have 12+ years experience as a professional illustrator and then textile designer and my advice on how to overcome the imposter syndrome is to start thinking about helping others instead of thinking about “YOU” all the time. Turn “Am I good enough?” deliberately to “How can I help others with my work?”. In my case, I felt really motivated when I started thinking that I want to support myself and my family with my art and that my MEDIUM is art and design to achieve that goal.

Of course, you need to find what motivates YOU. We all have different motivations. What can it be for you? It is helpful to brainstorm on paper.

From “Am I good enough?” to “How can I help with my creative work?”

So, if you start thinking this way, you can go on and IMPROVE your art and design skills a bit every day since you want to achieve a goal with them, not just show them off or just get attention with your art for the sake of attention.
