Most common myhts that stand in the way of patterned designers and holding them back from achieving success.

As a seasoned designer with over 15 years of experience and a successful career that encompasses fabric design, children’s book illustration and authoring, and online teaching, I have seen my fair share of myths in the design industry. In this blog post, I’ll be busting some of the most common misconceptions that stand in the way of patterned designers and holding them back from achieving success.

Myth: I can just draw and my business will be successful.

This is a common misconception that many creative individuals fall victim to. While it’s true that we all started out with a passion for drawing, painting, or designing, success in the industry requires much more than just talent. As artists, we need to educate ourselves on the business side of things, including how to effectively market and sell our designs.

Having a love for creating is great, but if we don’t learn how to sell our artwork, we’ll never make a living from it. There are so many different ways to sell online and in-person, and as patterned designers, we need to learn about these methods if we want to turn our passion into a successful career.

I believe that as an artist, you need to take the time to learn about marketing and sales, even if it takes a year or so. This investment in your education will be well worth it in the long run, and it will make all the difference in the success of your business.

Myth: I just want to design 10, 20, 30, or 50 pieces of art, and they should sell right away.

Another myth is that you can just design a few pieces of art and expect them to sell right away, or make you rich. The truth is, success in the industry requires a lot of hard work and consistency.

Designing 10, 20, or even 30 pieces of art and expecting them to sell immediately is a recipe for disappointment. As designers, we need to understand that it takes time to develop our skills and create a portfolio of work that will attract clients and sell.

It’s also important to note that one piece of artwork or one design is not enough to sustain a successful business. We need to consistently create and put our work out there, experiment with what sells and what attracts new clients, and then create more of what works.

In conclusion, as a patterned designer, it’s important to understand that success requires a combination of creativity and business savvy. We need to educate ourselves on marketing, sales, and all the other aspects of running a successful business. With hard work and consistency, we can turn our passion for design into a successful and fulfilling career.
