That awesome feeling when you see your child reading the book you illustrated…

We got a big package in the mail and my daughter got very curious about what was inside..

She got so excited when she discovered that it was full of the copies of my second children’s book I illustrated Star Light, Star Bright. She read them, she stacked them over and over. And she wanted to bring one to her preschool classroom as a gift, which I had planned, too.

I had the dream to illustrate children’s books many-many years ago due to my love of kids literature. I even wrote one of my Master’s theses on Dutch children’s books back in the Netherlands…

I had a few hundred separate illustrations online in 2009 when a US based publishing house Flowerpot Press contacted me and commissioned the first book Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star“.

Here it is:

It’s been more than 10 years since the first book was published and in 2019 the publisher republished it again with a simple classic rhyme text which is much shorter and a different cover on the illustration, but my art is still there as well as my name on the cover, which makes my heart happy every time I see it.

I did even know back then that I would have a daughter to read my books with 🙂 It is definitely one of the best feelings in the world to see your child enjoy and treasure the books and designs you create.

I wish for you the same!
