“Making a Living from Your Art: A Guide to Selling Your Designs Online for Free”
Hello, my amazing creative friends! It’s Oksancia here again, and I am here to help you create art that feeds both your soul and your family. As a textile designer with 14 years of experience running my own independent textile design company, I know how difficult it can be to make a living from your art. But I am here to tell you that it is possible, and in this blog post, I will show you how to sell your designs online for free.
First of all, I want to emphasize that this guide is geared towards repeat pattern designers. However, if you are an illustrator, don’t worry! I have experience with both repeat patterns and illustrations, and I have found that both can be profitable if you know how to sell them.
The good news is that you can sell your art online for free. There are several ways to do this, but I will focus on two of the most popular: microstock websites and print-on-demand websites.
Microstock websites, such as Shutterstock and Adobe Stock, allow you to sell your vector designs for free. Vector art is created in Adobe Illustrator and tends to sell better than raster art, which is created in Photoshop or with photos. If you’re not familiar with the difference between raster and vector art, don’t worry! I have a video on my channel that explains everything, so just search for “Oksancia vector raster” to find it.
Print-on-demand websites, such as Redbubble and Zazzle, allow you to sell your designs on a variety of products, from fabric and paper to cups, handbags, and greeting cards. These websites are free to use and have been a great source of income for me for the past 14 years.
I want to remind you to always sell your own original artwork. Don’t take other people’s art or copy their designs, as this is illegal and unethical. Focus on creating your own unique pieces, and you will be much better off in the long run.
In conclusion, selling your art online for free is possible with microstock websites and print-on-demand websites. I have been able to make a substantial income over the past 14 years by using these platforms, and I am confident that you can too. Just take your time, build your portfolio one step at a time, and you will be on your way to making a full-time income from your art. I can’t wait to hear your success stories, so please share them with me.
Grow, love, create!
