As a textile designer with over 15 years of experience and the founder of Oksancia Textile Design Studio and an award-winning online school, I have gained a wealth of knowledge about designing fabric on Spoonflower. In this blog post, I am sharing my top 10 tips for Spoonflower fabric designers to help you get the most out of your designs and increase your sales.

– Utilize descriptive keywords and metadata. When uploading your designs to Spoonflower, it is essential to use descriptive keywords and metadata. Spoonflower has a search algorithm similar to Google, and the more descriptive you are with your designs, the easier it will be for customers to find your fabric. When editing your design, scroll down to the “collections” section to add a title, description, and tags to your design. Make sure to add keywords, colors, and any relevant subject matter to your title and description to help the algorithm match your fabric to potential buyers.

– Join a Spoonflower fans Facebook group. Joining the Spoonflower fans Facebook group is a great way to connect with other Spoonflower designers and learn about the platform. You can chat with fellow designers and share tips and advice to help you get the most out of Spoonflower. I also recommend checking out my repeat pattern design mastermind Facebook group, which is not just about Spoonflower but all kinds of repeat pattern designs.

How to become a textile designer

– Add a swatch book sample pack to your order. When ordering fabric from Spoonflower, consider adding a swatch book sample pack to your order. This inexpensive pack includes samples of all of Spoonflower’s current fabrics and a color guide to help you see how the colors will print on the fabric. This is a great way to get a feel for the fabric and see how sharp the colors turn out.

– Order proofs for your fabric designs. To make your fabric available for sale on Spoonflower, you need to order proofs. This is a swatch of your fabric that you receive in the mail, and it costs $5. However, if you design 42 or more designs, you can use Spoonflower’s fill-a-project or fill-a-yard option to make your fabrics available for sale for much less.

– Utilize collections. Organizing your designs into collections can help potential buyers find your fabric and increase your sales. When editing your design, consider adding it to a collection to help customers find it more easily.
